International photographer showcases exhibition on punk music in North Devon

An award-winning international photographer who has chronicled the explosion of punk music in America, is coming to North Devon this month to showcase his work and host a special evening for the public.

Michael Grecco will be at the Blindwell Gallery in Braunton on Wednesday July 13 and Saturday July 16 for signings as he launches his exhibition in North Devon.

Another audience with Michael will take place at the gallery on July 16 as founder Emma Crosby explained: “We are delighted to welcome Michael and his exhibition to the Blindwell Gallery. Michael will be in person at the gallery to present his exhibition “Days of Punk” on Wednesday July 13 from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday July 16 from 12-4 p.m. We invite the general public to attend where Michael will be available for signings.

“Additionally, we are thrilled to host an ‘Audience with Michael Grecco’ on the evening of Saturday, July 16. This very special ticketed event includes a copy of Michael’s book ‘Punk, Post Punk, New Wave’, along with a champagne reception, canapes from Coastal Cooks and a talk by Michael, followed by a book signing.Michael is internationally recognized for his work, and we are delighted that his show is coming to North Devon on his world tour. This exhibition of historic punk music photographs from the late 70s to early 90s will be on view in our gallery until September 3rd.

Michael is world famous for documenting the nightclub and concert scenes of New York and Boston as punk roared across America. As an Associated Press photographer, photographer for legendary rock station WBCN-FM, and self-proclaimed “club kid,” Michael had a unique opportunity to become part of this groundbreaking scene as both a columnist and a participant. . He captured for posterity a period of outspokenness in pop culture history, with all of its raw energy and outrageous antics.

When sharing his ‘Days of Punk’ show around the world, Michael said: “These images were dormant in my flat files until my archivist suggested we revisit this set of unseen works. is a pleasure to finally share them with fans and collectors for the first time. The exhibition first opened in Somerset at the Photo London Fair in 2021 before moving to La Termica museum in Malaga and now Blindwell Gallery in Braunton.

Blindwell presents the works of established and emerging artists from an international and national scene in quarterly exhibitions.
