Avril Lavigne wows VMAs fans with her signature pop-punk style: “Old Avril vibes”

April Lavigne stunned fans with her “timeless” look at the MTV Video Music Awards in Newark, New Jersey on Sunday night.

The “Sk8er Boi” singer walked the red carpet at the 2022 VMAs alongside her boyfriend, Mod Sun. The Canadian singer turned heads in an all-black ensemble that fans say is “extremely on-brand” for the “pop-punk princess.” Lavigne rocked a pair of oversized black cargo pants with a chain hanging from her belt loops, a black long-sleeved top with corset detailing, and her signature black smokey eye makeup.

Lavigne was nominated for the Best Alternative Video award – which Italian band Maneskin won.

Photos of the 37-year-old’s stunning look were applauded by fans who loved seeing “the old April vibes”.

This year’s VMAs mark 20 years since Lavigne’s very first appearance at the Video Music Awards in 2002, where she won Best New Artist.

Lavigne attended the 2021 VMAs last summer for the first time since taking a five-year hiatus from music due to a private battle with Lyme disease. The singer made her comeback to music this year with the release of her latest album, “Love Sux.”

“I spent the last few years at home sick, battling Lyme disease. Those were the worst years of my life as I went through physical and emotional battles. I was able to turn that fight into music of which I am really proud”, she writing in a letter to fans on his website.

According to Lavigne, her loyal fanbase and her passion for music were crucial in helping her get through some of the most trying days of her illness.

“I wrote songs in my bed and on the couch and recorded there most of the time too. Words and lyrics that were so true to my experience came out of me effortlessly,” he said. she stated. Explain. “Truly…by keeping my spirits up, having goals to achieve and a purpose to live for, my music has helped me heal and keep me alive.”
